Retelling, 2014

Performance

A biographical story told in first person narrative, is rendered fiction through it’s retelling word for word.

The original story's live recording is played to the headphones of a performer. The performer retells the story as accurately and completely as they can, trying to keep up with the recording.

The performer becomes a mere conduit for content, a first person narrative becomes a first person removed narrative. The original story regains liveness in exchange for context.
